AXIOM BUILDERS – BUILDING COMMUNITY

Insights from Builders Code 2025 Community Champion, Axiom Builders

As we approach the deadline for our 2026 Builders Code Champion Award applications, Builders Code would like to feature one of our last year’s winners – Axiom Builders.

Axiom Builders was recognized with the 2025 Builders Code Community Champion Award for their exceptional efforts to align workplace culture initiatives with serving their community.

Learn more about Axiom Builders and their Community Engagement program through our Q&A below with Connie Mair, their Director, Community Engagement.

How does Axiom Builders give back to the community?

I’m proud to have been working here since Axiom Builders was founded. Since the very beginning, our company has cared about giving back to the community and providing support through local partnerships.

In 2023, we officially launched our Community Engagement program to focus on hands-on support through volunteerism. Today, we have six community partners supporting causes like social impact, food security, shelter/housing, and environmental stewardship – and together we have volunteered over 5,000 hours!

How does the program benefit the people working at your company?

We focus a lot on hands-on support for our community partners, because it directly benefits the people and neighbourhoods where we live, work, and build. However, volunteering doesn’t just foster stronger community connections; it also supports our employees’ wellbeing, helping them connect with colleagues, develop new skills, mentor others, and grow as leaders.

We have seen a more than 50% increase in volunteering since our program’s launch and continue to receive positive feedback from our team that the program creates a sense of purpose, connection, and pride in the impact they make.

Can you tell us a bit about some of your community partners?

We often try to align our Community Engagement program opportunities with our skills and resources, for example, donating skilled labour and construction expertise, as well as physical materials.

We recently were thrilled to partner with the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation on their revitalization projects, including the May Wah Hotel SRO conversion project, Storytelling Centre, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, and new community signage and streetlamps.

Another example is our partnership with Working Gear, an organization focused on providing construction industry-appropriate clothing, gear, and support to low-income or unemployed individuals.

The list goes on; these are just a few examples of the wonderful local organizations we partner with!

What do the Builders Code Champion Awards mean to you?

Being recognized as the 2025 Community Champion meant a lot to us, not only as a company, but for all our volunteers who donate their time and talent. We are thankful for organizations like the Builders Code who champion the evolution of our industry and encourage construction companies to be advocates for positive change, inclusivity, and giving back to community.

Thank you, Axiom Builders, for being an example of workplace culture by serving your community, your people, and making a difference in the construction industry.

This year, Builders Code will be recognizing “Builders Code Workplace Culture Champions” in various regions of BC.

Please contact the team@builderscode.ca if you wish to put your company forward for a 2026 Builders Code Workplace Culture Champion Award. But do it quickly! The deadline to apply is January 31, 2026. We hope to see your company’s application among our group of candidates!
