2026 Champion Award Nominations
Builders Code recognizes Champions leading the way in BC’s Construction Culture. Demonstrating a commitment to the physical and psychological safety of everyone on their team, they work to ensure that all employees can reach their full potential without fear of hazing, harassment, bullying, or discrimination.
To be recognized as a Builders Code Champion, companies must demonstrate their commitment and leadership in fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Nominations for the Builders Code 2026 Champion Awards will open on September 2, 2025.
When you nominate a construction employer in BC, we’ll congratulate them and send them the full application form. The application form must then be completed by your nominee in order for them to be considered.
Nomination Criteria & Eligibility
Builders Code Workplace Culture Champion Award Nominator Eligibility
- Must be an employee or a third-party of the company being nominated – this includes a partner, subtrade, supplier, or customer. May also include a BCCA program representative, Builders Code representative, post-secondary training institution, or an employee not involved in leading workplace culture in the company they are nominating
- Must consent to being contacted by Builders Code if further information is required.
Builders Code Workplace Culture Champion Award Nominee Criteria
A Builders Code Champion creates and maintains an outstanding workplace that supports the safety and protection of all employees and partners, and is committed to advancing and retaining women and other equity-deserving groups in trades. These employers set a positive example for the industry, demonstrating policies and practices that are worth imitating. Successful nominees will meet the following criteria:
- Leadership: They demonstrate a commitment to advancing and retaining a diverse workforce.
- They are a role model in the industry, fostering a work environment of safety, respect, and inclusivity.
- They act with intention: setting goals, tracking progress, reporting outcomes.
- They challenge the status quo: being a champion for an Acceptable Worksite as a standard in psychological safety, protection, and productivity within the industry.
- They must be a business operating in BC.
Builders Code Workplace Culture Champion Characteristics
Environment: This company is known for fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture. They ensure the health and safety of everyone on the worksite by recognizing that safety protection goes beyond PPE to include psychological safety. In all locations of the workplace, this company holds their employees, leaders, and sub-contractors accountable, ensuring a work environment free from behaviour that would threaten safety, productivity, and well-being.
Engagement: This company also works hard to attract diverse candidates and looks for ways to remove barriers to achieving success. They are invested in the engagement and development of all employees through progressive benefits, recognition, training, and opportunities for growth.
Education: This company is also committed to their community by promoting education, awareness, and training that positively impacts their community, company, and employees. They support their employees to participate in mentorship within the company and/or externally. They bring awareness to the youth, women, and other equity-deserving groups of their community to building a rewarding career in construction.
A Builders Code Workplace Culture Champion believes that their people are the key to their success, and they make it a priority to value and support their workers both personally and professionally through intentional initiatives that encourage them to stay, grow, and lead – with everyone being a contributor to a better, healthier industry.
Builders Code wishes to recognize winners in the following regions:
- BC Vancouver Island Region
- BC Lower Mainland Region
- BC Northern Region
- BC Southern Interior Region
Award winners will be selected based on the strength of their application in demonstrating exceptional workplace culture and as such, regional representation may differ.
